Let’s face it. When it comes to getting in a workout, any gym will get the job done. If you walk into a local gym or rec center, you’ll probably see people, earbuds in, moving from station to station. Maybe they chat with each, but usually they don’t.
The thing that makes CrossFit a place where people choose to work out is the people. No other gym provides the community that CrossFitters create together.
Here are a few of the ways that CrossFit builds a strong community:
1. Working Toward a Common Goal
When you show up for a CrossFit workout, everyone does the same WOD that’s written on the whiteboard. Sure, you’ll have some people that will modify or scale and others who will do the workout as Rx’d. But everyone is still working toward a common goal.
2. All Fitness Levels
You may assume that CrossFit is only for elite athletes, but this is not the case. CrossFit is for all ages, genders, and fitness levels. In each class, you’re guaranteed to get a mix of people from all different backgrounds. Each member has something unique to contribute to the community.
3. Accountability and Support
The friends you make through CrossFit provide a high level of accountability and support. When you know your friends are expecting you to show up for class, you’re more likely to make sure that you get there. And in every class, you’ll find that the level of support and encouragement stays high until everyone has finished the workout.
