Loaded Bell is proud to announce Danielle Dooley as our Athlete of the Month for August. There are many factors that contribute to selecting our athletes of the month. In Danielle’s case, it’s her attention to detail in getting things right. She’s always working at getting better and works with our staff to make that happen. A coach can provide a corrective cue and she’ll immediately begin to incorporate it towards improvement. Danielle continues to grow everyday and we can’t wait to see what she can accomplish!

Tell us about your sports & fitness background.
In High School I swam on the swim team for four years. My events included, 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 100 backstroke and backstroke in Medley relays. I returned to swimming in 2012 when I started training for sprint Xterra triathlon relays with friends. It was a fun challenge to do distance swimming in open water. I have also practiced yoga since 2001.
How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? Take us back to your first WOD… what was it, and how did it feel?
One of my closest friends encouraged me to join Desert Forge with her back in 2013. Her hubby had been crossfitting for years and had just started coaching. Luckily, my first WOD was a running/endurance WOD. The ones to follow were not as easy for me. Cindy kicked my butt in those early days and I remember thinking that all of the strength training I was doing prior to crossfit at Defined Fitness did absolutely nothing for me. Was I ever going to be able to do a pull-up?
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CrossFit? (before / after)
Crossfit has given me more muscle mass and definition. After having three babies and crossfitting for less than a year I had defined abs. Now that I have had a fourth child the definition in my abs has slowly returned.
What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like CrossFit that were totally unexpected?
First, I got married to a man I met at Desert Forge (Andy). Then, I unexpectedly found myself taking leadership roles in my career. When I worked in the NICU, I had a charge nurse and educator position. I feel that crossfit has helped with my confidence and self-esteem over the years.
Please share with us any favorite CrossFit / Loaded Bell moments.
The open was among some of my favorite moments this year. It was the first time I entered and I was able to do most of the workouts as prescribed.
Any advice for people just getting started?
Take it one day at a time and don’t be too hard on yourself! It is awesome that you are trying your best. Please don’t ever feel discouraged. Once upon a time, I was too hard on myself. I’m having such a better experience this time around. Surprisingly, I am reaching more of my goals too.
What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit?
I practice yoga, take care of my four kiddos, and work full time in an operating room.
