We’re very proud to announce Michael Hawkins as our July Athlete of the Month! Michael is one of those quiet people that sort of sneak up to you…in a good way. You’re out running a 400M during a WOD and all of a sudden notice that he’s passing you, easily! It shouldn’t be a surprise though. He’s in the box 4-5 times a week putting in the work necessary to get better. It’s that kind of dedication that will ensure he continues to get a little better everyday and the reason why he’s our Athlete of the Month! Congrats Michael!!
Athlete of the Month Questionnaire
Name: Michael Hawkins
Where did you grow up? California until 3rd grade then Texas till I graduated.
When did you become a member at Loaded Bell CrossFit? January 2017
What do you do when you are not at Loaded Bell CrossFit? When I’m not at the Box I’m on the soccer field with my daughters or gymnastics. With my little me free time I am usually training or watching sports.
How did you find out about CrossFit? I watched the CrossFit games on television. Then one day on Facebook I saw an ad for the new you challenge. I applied and the rest is history.
When did you realize CrossFit is right for you? After the first class I realized I was in horrible shape and the only way to improve was to come to every class. After each class I saw progress and felt better throughout the day.
What is your favorite WOD/movement? Anything with heavy weights. Deadlifts, squats, or the sled..
What is your least favorite WOD/movement? OH Squat by far. One day I will get it though. One day…..
What is one thing you have done at Loaded Bell CrossFit that you never thought you would do? Finished an RX WOD. I remember looking at those Wods when we were doing the new you workouts and wondering how the heck people could do that.
What motivates you during a CrossFit WOD? Not being where I used to be, the coaches, and the other athletes at the box for sure.
What is something about yourself that we might not know? Hmmm I’m not sure I’m pretty outspoken lol. Maybe that I love coaching kids. I’ve coached soccer, baseball, softball, and basketball. Soccer is life….
What advice would you give to someone just getting started with CrossFit? Stick with it. It will get easier. You just have to put in the work.
