When it comes to fitness or any other aspect of your life, it’s important to set goals that help to inspire you and push you along the way. There’s a strategy to setting your own unique set of goals that can take them from a distant dream to an actualized reality. Whether it’s fitness, nutrition, job performance, or anything you want to accomplish, take a look at some of the best ways to make your goals achievable.
Make them measurable.
One of the most important things to do when setting goals for yourself is to make sure that they can be tracked and measured. Without this specificity, goals become abstract and the line between achieved and unachieved gets blurry. Instead of “lose weight”, set a goal to “lose 10 pounds before August 1, 2019”, as there is a specific amount and date.
Dream big, but be realistic.
A huge mistake that people make when they set goals is to set them way too high so as to make them nearly unachievable. Then, when they see they won’t make it, they give up and fall back into old patterns. Set goals that are realistic, and put stepping stone goals along the way. That way, if you miss one step, you can adjust your final goal to still be attainable.
Plan for a reward.
If you need a little motivation to get further along in your goals (and it’s in your budget), plan some rewards along the way. Sometimes, the promise of a massage at the end of a months-long workout regimen can be just what you need to push you to the finish line. Or, a great big meal after your marathon can give you something to hope for as you run. Find a reward that fits your budget and timeline and use it as motivation!
